Title: Rainbow Pearls
Medium: Digital Photography
Photographer: Aaron J. Greenblatt
Camera Type: Panasonic DMC-LZ7 Lumix 7.2 MP
Editing: Edited in PhotoShop 7.0 for color accuracy, size, and to apply copyright and border.

Location: Photograph taken at the 2007 Fall Bead Bonanza Show in Southfield, Michigan.

Description: These pretty rainbow strands of pearls were for sale at the show. Their color is achieved by dying. The blue beads on the right are cloisonné - an ancient metalworking technique.

About cloisonné: Cloisonné is a multi-step enamel process used to produce jewelry, vases, and other decorative items. Cloisonné was first developed in the Near East. It spread to the Byzantine Empire and from there along the Silk Road to China. Chinese cloisonné is probably the most well known and ubiquitous. To create cloisonné, metal pieces are designed and fabricated. Spaces, or pockets, are left between the metal pieces. The spaces are filled with powdered glass (enamel). The pieces are then fired in a kiln which melts the powdered glass so that it fills in the metal spaces - adding glass coloration to the metal piece.

The colors are so pretty. :omg:
I especially love the ones on the end. (with the flowers)

By the way, I'm only in eighth grade, and I was wondering if you could tell me which direction I would have to go in order to learn how to make jewelry and such.
Your work has really inspired me to learn some of this.
