Title: Paper Currency
Medium: Digital Photography
Photographer: Aaron J. Greenblatt
Camera Type: Panasonic DMC-LZ7 Lumix 7.2 MP
Editing: Edited in PhotoShop 7.0 for color accuracy, size, and to apply copyright and border.

Location: Photograph taken during the 34th Annual Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show hosted by the Macomb County / Mount Clemens Gem & Lapidary Society at the Roseville Recreation Center, 18185 Sycamore road, Roseville, Michigan on April 22nd, 2011.

Description: Sitting out in the open on a dealer's table were thousands of pieces of paper money. They were being sold for $2 each. One of the things I've often found odd about mineral shows is that there always seems to be at least one dealer with a lot of foreign paper money for sale. Since paper money isn't a mineral (or even a fossil) I don't know why they're being sold at these shows. That being said, they're still interesting to look at and they often have pretty colors with neat designs.

Since I'm not a numismatist (someone who collects coins and paper money) I have no idea the actual worth of these pieces nor even some of their countries of origin. And I can't read what it says on some of them since I don't know that many languages. However, I think there may be some Russian, Mexican, Dutch, French, and Brazilian bills in this image - but really, that's just a guess on my part based on what I think some of the words on these bills might say. It should also be noted that while these bills are referred to as "paper money", they are in fact usually made out of a type of extremely durable cotton cloth

To see another image I took of paper money at a different mineral show, see my Paper Money deviation.

I see notes that are obviously from France, Luxemburg, Hungary, Brasil and Mexico, but I also see notes of Bulgaria, Argentina, Austria-Hungary, Turkey and the German Empire in there.

I happen to collect paper money, so this is quite an interesting collection you have seen there.
