Title: Cup Of Fimo
Medium: Digital Photography
Photographer: Aaron J. Greenblatt
Camera Type: Panasonic DMC-LZ7 Lumix 7.2 MP
Editing: Edited in PhotoShop 7.0 for color accuracy, size, and to apply copyright and border.

Location: Photograph taken at the 2007 Fall Bead Bonanza Show in Southfield, Michigan.

Description: There were many types of Fimo beads for sale at the show. These detailed pink ones caught my eye. They are rather tiny. In the picture you can see how many fit into one compartment of a muffin tin. Each bead is about the size of an American dime.

These Fimo beads were made in a process called caning or caneworking. Pieces of differently colored clay are laid together parallel to each other to form a pattern or picture. They are then pressed together to form a single solid mass. The mass is then pulled or roll out which stretches the pattern making it smaller and smaller. The stretched clay is then cut or sliced perpendicular to the pattern. Each bead is one slice.

About Fimo: Fimo is a name for a brand of polymer clay made by Eberhard Faber. Though other brands of polymer clay exist, Fimo is the best known. The material comes in many different colors; there are many finishes to choose from, and even a softener to use with it because it can be hard to work. It is used for making many things, including jewelry, accessories, and small trinkets. Once shaped, Fimo is baked in a standard or toaster oven for about 30 minutes at 110°C to harden it. Once baked, it can be cut, drilled, painted, sanded, and sliced thin.
